Harry Riser : Broken Wand

Announcements Member and Club News

Compeers,

It is with deep sorrow we mark the passing of one of our own, mentor and friend, Harry Riser. Harry passed on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Harry had been involved with the magic community for nearly 75 years. He was a mentor to Michael Close and taught Penn & Teller how to perform the Faro shuffle. He was a friend to Dai Vernon, Charlie Miller, and many other magicians from the golden age.

Harry's calling will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Crown Hill Funeral Home, immediately followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. Taylor Martin will be performing the broken wand ceremony.

Crown Hill Funeral Home
700 38th St.
Indianapolis, IN 46208

A celebration of life will be held March 12, 2017, on the anniversary of Harry's birthday.

I hope a lot of you will be able to stop in and even stay for the service.

Announcements Member and Club News Schedule of Meetings Special Events

Fellow Compeers and Conjurers:

We have so much going on with #31 and Ring #10, that I just have not kept up with my newsletter for Assembly #31. Plus my performance schedule has been a bit demanding, so here's a quick update.

May 17-A Day With Joshua Jay?

Joshua Jay the current director of Magi-Fest and a very accomplished magician is going to lecture the Indy Magic Clubs at 4 PM on Sat. May 17. If you're an S.Y.M. member or parent, you have a great opportunity to meet with Josh at 2:30. All this is happening at our meeting location, The Irvington Methodist Church. The location is:

30 N Audubon Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46219 which is located right behind Jockamo's Pizza.

The map to the location is this link: Irvington U.M. Church

May 22 is the S.Y.M. Year End show. This is being held at The Salvation Army Apartments, 4390 N. High School Rd., at 7 PM. I will perform along with Amazing Barry and the young magicians themselves. This should be a great evening and a wonderful look into the future of magic.

Our next Indy Magic Club Meeting is June 2 at 7 PM at the Irvington U.M. Church. Our theme is (Dale, please put the theme here, if you would.) We are also having S.A.M. elections. If you wish to run for an office, please let Dale Benson or Don Miller know at least a week before the meeting. We will be needing a new scribe to submit reports to M.U.M. I believe we have someone interested, but if you wish to take on the responsiblity, please let us know.

And our annual Indianapolis Magic Clubs Picnic is on Sunday, June 22 @ Noon with the lunch beginning at 1 PM. Admission to the park is $5 per car, $15 per van. We will have tables available for a bit of a swap meet, magicians will perform, and a good time will be had by all. We will provide the chicken, you bring the sides or desserts. President's Letter

Compeers and friends:

Welcome to the magic city of Indianapolis. If you're a fan of magic or practice the world's oldest performance art yourself, I hope there's something here to make you want to come to an S.A.M. #31 meeting. The Indianapolis magic clubs, which includes Ring #10 of the I.B.M., meet together every first Monday @ 7:00 pm at the United Methodist Church at 30 N. Audubon Ave. in Irvington. The church is right behind Jockamo's Pizza on Washington St./U.S. 40. Please enter through the east side doors, go up the stairs, turn left at the top, and we are usually in the first meeting room on the right.

As the President of #31, I bring not only a love of magic to the position, but as a professional performer and producer of magic shows, I hope to make the meetings a fun time to learn and share magic and illusion. My personal passion is magic history, so I always try to add a bit of our art's past to my presentations. Also, with our magic shows here in Indy, that include Christian and Katalina's "Mindtripping" weekends at the Hilton Downtown and my own Indy Magic Monthly, allow the public to see shows weekly.

The theme of our March 3, 2014 meeting is Dangerous Tricks ("Et tu, Brute!")   The theme for our April 7 meeting is Money Magic. These could be interesting. Hope to see you on the first  Monday evening of each month.

M.U.M,
Taylor Martin, President Assembly #31, S.A.M.

Sad News - Aldo Colombini

Announcements Member and Club News

Maria Ibanez shared the following sad news with S.A.M. members from Rachel Colombini through Simone Marron.

"Terrible news. Aldo suffered a catastrophic stroke yesterday. Left side of brain dead spreading fast to the right side, paralyzed, no speech, hospice taking over now.  It will be just days, nothing we can do.  Sorry to have to give you this news."

As Maria said, please keep our dear friends Aldo and Rachel in your thoughts and prayers.
